Powered by the Apocalypse-style Resolution for D&D, OSR, and D&D-like Games
A downloadable optional rule
This is an alternative system for making checks in D&D and similar games, made largely in recognition of a dice-trick: If you roll 2 d20s and treat both rolling under a target number as a success, only one rolling under as a partial, and neither rolling under as a failure, this replicates something that looks exactly like the default dice-rolling mechanic in PbtA games.
Also, it has a cool table that takes otherwise-wasted rolls and uses them to help the GM choose which Moves to use on the players. I always had trouble remembering and choosing from the GM Moves list on the fly in PbtA games, and this removes that difficulty.
This optional rule is compatible with any game which has ability checks on ability scores that fall between 1 and 20.
